Here's What You Should Be Buying on Cyber Monday

Time invested in your personal growth is an investment in your success. Where you put your money is what you value.

Now knowing that, do you actually need another pair of similar black jeans or a new cable knit sweater?

Here are 5 areas where you should be putting your money instead on Cyber Monday-

1. Courses

I miss being in university. It’s a totally different learning environment now that I’m in the workforce and I’m finding it critical to stay engaged in learning new things. Thankfully, online courses are a fantastic way to do so if you have flex work hours and/or you’re always on the move.

Right now, Udemy is offering Chris Haroun’s An Entire MBA In One Course for just $10 (originally $200) and it allows full lifetime access so you can go back into the course to refer to lessons/materials. In case you’re thinking “this is a load of bull--” let me provide some background-

Chris Haroun is an award winning business school professor, former Goldman Sachs investment banker, and frequent lecturer at Columbia University and Stanford Business School. Here are some insights Entrepreneur magazine collected about the course.

I purchased this and his 101 Crucial Lessons They Don’t Teach You in Business School course. Happy to let you know my thoughts when I’ve completed!

And if a new job is on your holiday list, looks like Career Contessa is doing a 30% discount on all their Online Career Courses - offering lessons on LinkedIn profile makeovers, job hunting strategies, and more.

2. Travel

If you’re a planner like me, your 2018 list of countries to explore is probably set. Now it’s time to budget!

To help with that, I found that WOW Air is offering new discount fares for travel from the US to Europe and has one way tickets to Reykjavik, Iceland for as low as $99.

A few quick tips from Deal News as you shop for tickets:

  • While Delta and Southwest have good international deals, you’ll really want to look at the international carriers like Emirates, Norwegian, and WOW Air.
  • Sales move quickly on Cyber Monday so if you see a great one today, be sure to pounce.
  • Be careful for additional hidden fees and costs as you check out! Yes, that means you actually should read the annoying fine print.

3. Fitness

Self Magazine published this awesome list of all the 2017 Cyber Monday Fitness Deals - highlighting discounts on everything from hiking gear, yoga classes, gym memberships, and wearable tech. I’ll be moving in on the Classpass deal as I’ve been wanting to check out what that’s like!

4. Timepiece

I never leave my house without a watch. While leaving my house without my phone is challenging as I am frequent user of Lyft and ApplePay, I find that leaving my house without a watch on my wrist makes me feel naked.

If you don’t own a watch, get one.*

Yes, my giant iPhone 8 Plus tells the time but a watch is so much more that that. Here’s a Lifehack article about why people who wear a watch to work are more successful.

It’s important that you buy one that’s versatile, elegant, and stylish. Great news for you that MVMT watches are 20% off sitewide for Cyber Monday. Now is your chance. I’m currently torn between the gold Nova Series and gold Signature Series… #decisions

*and later, if you’re about it, get two because one won’t do it for all occasions.

5. Supporting Sellers

Let’s be real- your aunt, cousin, mom, and friends don’t need another generic scented candle, shower set, or whatever other clichè Christmas present you were going to pick up. The best gifts are those that serve a real function and if it’s also cute, well that’s a plus!

Etsy’s Home & Living section has an array of practical and sentimental items and you're supporting small businesses and individual merchandisers- I'm talking about people's art. I mean, come on, just look at this giant blush pink knit blanket! You can be warm and cozy all winter while feeling adorable.

Before you open tabs on tabs of retail websites, really think about your values and where you want to put your money. That should help you best capitalize on the countless sales happening today.

Happy Cyber Monday, all.
