Places I’ve Worked Remotely for the Past Year
Traveling is important to me — in inspiring my work and the stories I craft.
I am thankful to say that I got to keep working full-time for a tech startup throughout 2020 and into 2021, ceteris paribus, I still loved changing up my environment. When I heard we were not returning to our offices, I booked a series of one-way flights, one after the other.
A big thank you to my boss Kojo and CreatorIQ for letting me work from anywhere this past year.
My tiny 9x10 bedroom in a Hells Kitchen apartment in New York. March 2020.
Hotspotted my way through rest stops on an Arizona roadtrip with Justin. May 2020.
I returned to New York and my roommate flew out of state so I started to use her standing desk (thank you Danielle!)
Then she moved out entirely. I repurposed her old bedroom into this minimalist setup. I loved it. Summer 2020
The moment I heard we weren’t renewing our startup office lease, I booked a one way flight.
I flew to Seoul to live in my family’s apartment, still working New York hours and leading meetings on east coast time. This resulted in me catching every sunrise and taking power naps at 6am KST next to my laptop. August 2020.
I flew back to the U.S. and recreated the 2 monitor setup I missed. November 2020.
For a few months, I used my childhood bedroom in New Jersey as my office. Fall and winter 2020.
Later, I worked from Whitney’s apartment in Seattle. January 2021.
Led a remote Sales Kickoff from an AirBNB in Santa Barbara, California a week later.
Worked out of Oasis Cafe in Salt Lake City, Utah and lived with Van for a few days.
I got to stay at the Takada’s estate in Tennessee and work from their beautiful home for a week.
Returned to New York to work from empty WeWork offices that reopened. February 2021.
14-day mandatory quarantine at the Marina Bay Hotel in Seoul. Back to working New York hours while living in Korea again because I proved I could make it work. March 2021.
Got a lot done from my cute little bedroom in Haebangchon, Seoul through SharedHomies. March 2021.
Rented a house and worked from Jeju with the Seoul Startups crew. April 2021.
Worked from my Gangnam loft apartment until I moved on from CreatorIQ. May 2021.
I flew back to the U.S. and began my sabbatical. :)
